We had a wonderful experience adopting our dog from the Humane Society of Delaware County. We applied for several dogs that we were interested in. Several of these dogs were in foster care and so we communicated with the foster owners. We fell in love with one dog in particular. We were able to do a one week foster to adopt trial to see if it was a good fit for us and the pup. The foster owner regularly checked in that first week and long after. She was so helpful. Four months later Howdy is doing great and we cannot imagine our lives without him. This shelter is great and made our adoption process very easy. They truly want what is best for all of the animals!!
Adopted Lyla (Formerly Lyra) back in February. Staff was amazing and really made sure we found a fit best for our home. She is an amazing dog and we couldn’t imagine our lives without her.
We adopted Clove last November. Our little kitty is so loved by us. The humane gives you the history of the animal and takes such good care of them until they are adopted. Very impressed with the clean facility and love for all pets.
I'm a regular foster mom for fur babies. The staff is just all around lovely and understanding. Some dogs that I bring home, don't mesh well with my dog, and they never make me feel guilty for having to bring them back and trying to foster a different dog. I highly recommend becoming a foster parent for these fur babies. Such a wonderful experience l.
Such a wonderful experience from start to finish. These folks really care about the animals. The place is so clean and the animals are well taken care of. Truly fantastic, friendly staff. We are so thankful they allowed us to adopt sweet little Ripken into our home. He will be loved forever.
Named the kitten Gemini then saw how she really was so I ended up nameing her. Annabelle, you know after that doll lol. She's a handful but she is a sweetheart.
Wonderful experience, everyone does need to be aware that only 40ish dogs are on site while 200ish are eligible for adoption. If you respond to the scheduling email, be sure to include the name(s) of the animal(s) you are interested in. Be aware, there are no appointments needed on Saturday, but again, if the animal (s) you're interested in is(/are) in foster care, you'll show up and not have any animal (s) to see.
I have limited experience here, but have adopted three pets from here and have visited a handful of times. I only gave it four stars because of two things, The first is they no longer allow you to just show up and view dogs. You have to make an appointment. The second is that there is quite a lag between when they receive new pets and when they post them online or even post their picture in the shelter. I realized that this is primarily volunteer run, so leeway is extended! I just wanted to let everyone know that up front. So you're not surprised.
